The training workshop on planning and implementation of a communication strategy, held from 7 to 10 May 2018 in Khartoum, Sudan, was organized by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), in collaboration with the Permanent Inter-State Committee for Drought Control in the Sahel (CILSS), the Observatory for the Sahara and Sahel (OSS), the World Bank and the Sudan Sustainable Resource Management Project, and in support of the IUCN Commission on Education and Communication (CEC).
This workshop, which was opened in the presence of the Minister of the Environment, Natural Resources and Physical Development of Sudan, HE Dr. Hassan HILAL, is part of the implementation of the project "Strengthening Resilience through innovation, communication and knowledge services "(BRICKS) funded by the World Bank. It aimed to provide Sahel and West Africa project communicators (SAWAP) and journalists with training for better planning and implementation of their communication strategies.
Forty participants from the 12 SAWAP countries (Benin, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Ghana, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sudan, Chad and Togo) and South Africa were made up of experts in communication, journalists, representatives of the three BRICKS executing agencies (IUCN, CILSS, OSS), representatives of TerrAfrica and the national agency of the Great Green Wall in Burkina Faso.
A field trip was organized to share the land and water management experiences of the Sudan Sustainable Resource Management Project in collaboration with the communities. On the sidelines of the workshop, success stories sessions were organized with the communicators of all 12 SAWAP projects in order to highlight the results obtained in the framework of the projects.
As a reminder, the OSS coordinates the monitoring of the SAWAP program and the geospatial services. OSS achievements include the design and development of a SAWAP Monitoring and Evaluation System, a Geoportal on Sustainable Land and Water Management in the region, and 12 Geographic Information Systems. (GIS) national.
