Beneficiaries and Stakeholders
The project will directly benefit different categories of people from Cameroon, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, and Tunisia:
- National Governments - the project will strengthen the capacity of these countries to understand and deploy appropriate climate information and best practices for effective climate-proof policy making and practices;
- Researchers and experts from national climate research centres, Meteorological Departments and Universities will benefit through relevant skills and access to climate information tools to use and deploy high quality, demand-driven climate information for adaptation planning and decision-making;
- Policymakers and development planners – the project will build their capacity to understand the use and implications of climate evidence-based decision making;
- Women farmers and Extension agents – the project will train beneficiaries on the use of mobile applications for data collection on soil and climate characteristics.
The project will work with the following stakeholders:
- African Centre of Meteorological Applications for Development (ACMAD);
- African Climate Policy Centre;
- World Meteorological Organization (WMO);
- North African Regional Climate Centre (RCC) Network;
- SADC Climate Service Centre, Kenya Climate Innovation Centre
The following institutions will be the main source climate data and information data collection for the project:
- Ministry of Planning, National Development and Vision 2030, Kenya;
- Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, Tunisia;
- Ministry of Natural Resources, Energy & Mining, Malawi;
- Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services, Malawi;
- Minister of Environment, Nature Protection and Sustainable Development, Cameroun;
- Climate Change Network Nigeria (CCNN);
- The Federal Ministry of Environment, Nigeria, and Ministries of Agriculture (Extension Services); among others
These institutions will support the implementation of the project as well as provide human resources for capacity building and training:
- African Regional Climate Outlook Fora;
- Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN);
- The Global Climate Change Alliance (GCCA);
- Kenya Climate Change Working Group;
- Pan African Climate Justice Alliance (PACJA), Kenya
The project will tap into the immense contribution and experience of these networks and organizations for the design and implementation.
Objectives
The overall goal of this project is to strengthen the capacities of relevant stakeholders in five countries (Cameroon, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, and Tunisia) to understand and deploy appropriate climate information and best practices to inform decision-making. It aims to support development planning to reduce vulnerability and foster a food‐secure Africa. Specifically, the project will:
- Identify and analyse climate information needs and provide support for climate information synthesis and use;
- Build the capacities and knowledge of government agencies, research institutions, extension agents, and contact famers to utilize high quality, demand-driven climate information for adaptation planning and decision-making;
- Facilitate the mainstreaming of climate change issues in regional policy dialogue aimed at raising awareness on climate change issues to strengthen understanding, use and mastery of climate information.

- Improved national and regional level data collection systems and synthesis for better deployment in decision making and practice in Africa;
- Improved capacity of policymakers, scientists, extension agents and farmers to use climate information and technology tools for adaptation planning and decision making;
- Strengthened information exchange and improved networking among stakeholders working on climate change adaptation in selected countries.
