Upon initiative of the AdaptWAP Regional Executing Unit (OSS-based), a regional exchange & coordination workshop was organized with the project national & technical partners.
Mr. Claude Kidjo Director General of CENAGREF opened the works, followed by Mr. Luc GNACADJA, Chairperson of the OSS Strategic Orientation Committee & Mrs. Jeanne Josette Acacha Akoha Chief of Staff at the Ministry of Living Environment & Sustainable Development of Benin who both delivered a speech.
The overall objective of this workshop is to introduce & validate the first deliverables of the project & to adopt the methodologies to deploy as well as the different steps necessary to operationalize the Multi-Risk Early Warning System (MR-EWS). It will also be an opportunity to build the reporting & monitoring-evaluation capacities of stakeholders & to develop synergies & partnerships with the teams of other projects operating in the area of the WAP complex.
The EWS is considered to be an ideal adaptation instrument that aims to ready the stakeholders for the management of natural disasters & the adverse impacts of climate change, taking gender into account. Its establishment & deployment should improve the ability of stakeholders & vulnerable communities to contend with the risks of climate change related natural disasters, at local & regional levels.
The AdaptWAP project financed by the Adaptation Fund aims to promote the integration of climate change adaptation measures in the coordinated management of the W-Arly-Pendjari trans-boundary complex through the establishment of a MR-EWS relating to droughts, floods & fires, & the implementation of concrete adaptation measures to manage such emergencies.
