OSS shares its experience in the development of services based on space observation, Shenzhen, China, 15-19 Dec. 2019

23/12/2019

Within the framework of the Digital Belt AnD Road Program (DBAR) coordinated by The Institute of Remote Sensing and Digital Earth (RADI), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), OSS took part in the 4th DBAR conference, as well as in the restitution work of the thematic groups.

On this occasion, the representative of OSS, Mr Mustapha Mimouni, presented all the activities of the Organization carried out in the field of remote sensing in support of the management of water and natural resources and the follow-up of the Objectives of Sustainable Development. During a series of exchanges with the coordinator of the DBAR-Water group, efforts were also made to strengthen the role of OSS in the Digital Belt and Road Program - DBAR and to further concretize the collaboration between OSS and CAS/RADI.

The DBAR is an international scientific programme for the sustainable development of the Belt and Silk Road region using Big Earth Data. DBAR promotes the integration of Big Earth Data applications into the design, planning and monitoring of various aspects of human activities.
DBAR's mission is to build a plurality of partnerships, engaging the public and stakeholders to design, develop and implement demonstration projects that illustrate the value of Big Earth Data applications in achieving sustainable development (SDG) goals.

It should be recalled that OSS has acquired recognized expertise in the development of services based on space observation, and has developed an innovative approach as well as an informational heritage in support of the implementation of Multilateral Environmental Agreements. Within the framework of the projects it implements (CREM (Maghreb), GMES and Africa (North Africa) and Africultures (Tunisia)), OSS has developed decision-support products for better sustainable land and water management: thematic maps, data analysis and interpretation tools, à la carte operational services, drought early warning, monitoring of agricultural campaigns, estimation of groundwater and surface water availability, etc.
