Following the fast-track re-accreditation process approved by Decision B.28/38, the Adaptation Fund Board, during its intersessional period between thirty-second and thirty-third meetings, has decided to re-accredit Observatoire du Sahara et du Sahel (OSS) as a Regional Implementing Entity (RIE) of the Adaptation Fund.
This decision, which reflects a renewed confidence in the OSS, will certainly strengthen OSS' position as an intermediary between the climate funds (Adaptation Fund - since 2013 and Green Climate Fund - since 2017) and its members/partners and will promote the mobilization of financial resources for projects on adaptation and/or mitigation of the effects of climate change.
As a reminder, the Adaptation Fund was set up at UNFCCC COP7 in Marrakech in 2001, as part of the Kyoto Protocol. It is one of the main financing instruments for climate change adaptation under the UNFCCC, financing concrete adaptation programmes and projects for Least Developed Countries and Small Island Developing States that are particularly vulnerable to the adverse effects of climate change.
