The OSS was invited by the President and founder of the Centre d'Actions et de Réalisations Internationales (France) | CARI, to celebrate it's 20th anniversary, from October 15th to 17th 2018 in Paris. CARI is member of the OSS, representing civil society, since 2012.
On this occasion, the coordinator of the Environment Program, M Nabil Ben Khatra, participated in a panel of speakers in the presence of Xavier Sticker, Ambassador of the Environment of France, Monique Barbut, Executive Secretary of the UNCCD, Patrice Burger, President of CARI and Sylvestre Tiemtoré, President of SPONG.
A radio program has also been recorded and broadcast by Radio France International (RFI).
The main themes addressed during these two events revolved around the following points:
• Observation on land degradation worldwide, and particularly in Africa
• Ongoing solutions and initiatives
• Perspectives and financing of rehabilitation
• Place of civil society in the implementation of projects to combat desertification.
During these events, the representative of OSS presented figures on the evolution of deforestation in some countries of its zone of action and highlighting the efforts undertaken for the restoration of the lands by the countries of the region, with the support from technical and financial partners. The need to mobilize substantial funding to ensure real change and sustainability of the impact of the actions undertaken was also emphasized.
