22/06/2020

The training organized as part of the: "Improving IWRM, knowledge-based management and governance of the Niger Basin and the Iullemeden- Taoudeni / Tanezrouft Aquifer System" ITTAS project began this morning. This tele-training aims at building the capacities of specialists from member countries under the ITTAS project implementation. It will be moderated by OSS water experts and renowned specialists, namely Professors Ahmed KETTAB (Algeria) and M. Zammouri (Tunisia). This training first phase will be followed by a second session, scheduled on June 29, 2020.

Due to the COVID crisis related special circumstances, this virtual training workshop will be held on the OSS video-conference platform from June 22 to 24 and will be broadcast live on the OSS Facebook page. Emphasis will be placed, during this three-day training, on the “processing modflow” software utilization exercises.
Groundwater pollution will be discussed for the first time.

The ITTAS project aims to implement joint management of surface water and groundwater through the Niger river basin and the Iullemeden-Taoudéni / Tanezrouft aquifer system management and governance, thereby improving IWRM for the benefit of communities and the resilience of ecosystems. ITTAS is funded by GEF agencies namely the UNDP and the UNEP, and affects 11 countries (Algeria, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Ivory Coast, Guinea, Mali, Mauritania, Niger and Nigeria).
