The Sahara and Sahel Observatory participated in a training session on climate finance, co-organized by the Climate Technology Center and Network - CTCN, the UNEP-DTU, and the African Development Bank.
The objective of this workshop was to increase North African countries’ access (Tunisia, Egypt, Morocco, Algeria, and Mauritania) to GCF climate funds, in line with the national priorities identified by the countries.
Accordingly, the participants have been made aware of the Fund's investment criteria included in the concept note form, and have been introduced to the GCF's "Theory of paradigm change", which consists in demonstrating the changes expected in the project to be funded.
In conjunction with this workshop, the OSS shared its experience with sustainable management of groundwater resources in the transboundary basin of the North Western Sahara Aquifer System - SASS and raised the issues related to climate axis likely to be earmarked for funding.
