22/11/2018

On the occasion of the Fourteenth Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 14) held in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt until November 29, 2018, the OSS organizes, in collaboration with the Institut de recherceh pour le développement - IRD and the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie - OIF, a side event on "Protected Areas in the Post 2020 Agenda: from Protection to Sustainable Development", 22 November 2018.

The side event aims, through several presentations (IRD, OSS, IUCN, Haiti and Madagascar), to exchange and share experiences of the various stakeholders in the management of protected areas.  Discussions focused on the opportunities for socio-economic development offered by protected areas, and ways to improve their resilience to climate change, degradation, loss and depletion of natural resources.

This event emphasized on the need for funding to develop more effective management approaches. In this context, Mr. Hamada, OSS environmental expert, focused on the role of the OSS, which includes supporting and accompanying its member countries and partners in mobilizing funds to face environmental challenges (Adaptation Fund, Green Climate Fund, call for projects ...).
