A delegation composed of RADI-CAS Institute of Remote Sensing and Digital Earth (RADI), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), DIMECLUES project "Driving Mechanisms of Land Use and Cover Change in the Sahel", leader, and Beijing University, visited OSS headquarters for a 4-day mission (from June 11 to 16, 2018), to discuss the progress of the project and the validation of the annual action plan. It is also planned to carry out a field mission to explore irrigation techniques in the region.

The project aims to study the response of Land Use and Land Cover (LULC) change to climatic and anthropic forcing in the Sahel and the impact of LULC on water balance.

The project is structured around 4 components:

  • Mapping of land use change in the Sahel
  • Evaluation of climatic and anthropic forcing
  • Analyze LULC  impacts on and response to climatic and anthropic forcing
  • Management of ecosystems for land and water conservation in the Sahel
