As part of the activities of the groundwater management project “ITTAS” (Improvement of IWRM, Knowledge-based Management and Governance in the Niger Basin and Iullemeden-Taoudeni / Tanezrouft Aquifer), a training session was organized by the OSS for the benefit of technicians from the 11 countries sharing the aquifer systems of Iullemeden - Taoudéni / Tanezrouft (Algeria, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Guinea, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria and Chad).
The objective of this training, led by Mr. Abdous, Consultant and Dr. Mohamedou Sy, OSS Expert, was to strengthen the capacities of the technicians of the administration involved in the hydrogeological modeling works and called upon to ensure the administration of databases on groundwater management.
This training session was an opportunity for the OSS to present to the participants with the database and mathematical model being developed by the project. To this end, and after having reviewed the water resources management organization in force in each country, practical recommendations have been made to help enrich the base.
The ITTAS project aims to implement joint management of surface water and groundwater through the management and governance of the Niger River Basin and the Iullemeden-Taoudeni / Tanezrouft aquifer system, improving IWRM for the benefit of communities and the resilience of ecosystems.
