The geospatial decision support services restitution workshop for natural resources sustainable management, was organized by Al-Asriya University of Nouakchott – UNA, on January 20, 2021 in Nouakchott.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the OSS took part in the workshop through its videoconference platform.
Mr. Nabil Ben Khatra, Executive Secretary of the OSS, Dr. Houda Babah, Focal Point of the GMES project in Mauritania and Dr. Mohamed Fadhel Didah, Assistant to the President of Al-Asriya University of Nouakchott opened the workshop session.
Mr. Louis Evence Zoungrana introduced the technical work by presenting the three operational services based on Earth Observation that have been developed by the OSS as part of the GMES - North Africa Consortium project:
- Service 1: Monitoring of water withdrawals in irrigated areas,
- Service 2: Monitoring and evaluation of land degradation,
- Service 3: Seasonal monitoring, early warning and agricultural evaluation.
Mr. Zoungrana and Mr. Haj Taieb, OSS experts, gave online demonstrations of the two service platforms MISBAR and MISLAND dedicated to end users.
Discussions with Mauritanian partners made it possible to collect their feedback on the two service platforms, the use of which will be facilitated within the framework of the next project capacity building sessions due on March 2021.
