OSS will organize a monitoring and evaluation workshop dedicated to carbon estimation in Niamey (Niger), from 9 to 11 July 2018.
Aimed at the monitoring and evaluation experts of the SAWAP-Niger project (Third Community Action Program Support Project-PAC III), the workshop will allow to work onthe different methods used for the collection, processing and evaluation of GHG emissions and carbon balance in the project site using the FAO’s EX-ACT tool.
The workshop will be structured around the following:
- Reminder on the land cover/land use and change notions
- Presentations and exchanges on the different methods used for carbon balance evaluation
- Evaluation of GHG emissions and carbon balance in the PAC III project sites
- Use of the EX-ACT tool
The SAWAP-Niger project is an integral part of the zone covered by the Great Green Wall Initiative (GGWI) and is supported by the Sahel and West Africa Program (SAWAP), which includes 12 national projects implemented in Benin, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Ghana, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sudan, Togo and Chad. PAC III aims to strengthen Niger’s local development planning and implementation capacities, including the capacity to respond promptly and effectively to an eligible crisis or emergency, and to promote sustainable land and natural resources management and productive investments at the commune level in selected areas of Niger.
OSS coordinates the monitoring and evaluation of the SAWAP program and the geospatial services through the “Building Resilience through Innovation, Communication and Knowledge Services – BRICKS” project. In this framework, OSS accompanies the SAWAP beneficiaries and provides them with technical support, advice and capacity building actions, at their request. Following Benin, Ethiopia, Sudan, Chad and Senegal, it is now the turn of Niger’s Third Community Action Program Support Project to benefit of this support.
Mali, Mauritania, and Nigeria are also expected to follow before the end of this year.
