GMES & Africa is a pilot project that aims to meet the needs of decision-makers for global access to reliable, accurate and up-to-date information on environment and security issues.
In this context, the 1st African Continental Workshop, bringing together all the consortia of the GMES programme, was organised with a view to identifying collaborative mechanisms to deliver services on a continental scale. In particular, it was discussed to identify the "cross-fertilization" mechanisms to be set up between consortia and to seek solutions to the technical problems of the four pillars of GMES and Africa.
The OSS-North Africa consortium was represented by an OSS delegation as well as its various regional and national partners, namely: CRTEAN, CRASTE-LF, CNCT and DRC as well as the University of Nouackchott El Asriya.
The OSS consortium made five presentations, focusing on the following themes:
- Data and infrastructure
- Progress of activities with a focus on service development
- Training / Capacity building
- Communication
- Awareness raising
The North Africa consortium also participated in debates and exchanges during the various sessions, as well as in training on grant management and monitoring and evaluation.
