Kick off of the strengthening resilience for small holder farmers & pastoralits in the IGAD region project, March 10, 2021

In collaboration with the Sahara & Sahel Observatory (OSS) & the Global Water Partnership-EA, the Ministry of Water &Environment (MWE) for Uganda organized a national launch day of the "Strengthening drought resilience for smallholder farmers & pastoralists in the IGAD- region DRESS-EA" 4-year project funded by the Adaptation Fund (AF) at the Mt. Moroto hotel, Moroto Town, Uganda, March 10, 2021.

Dr. Florence Grace Adongo, Director of Water Resources Management gave the welcoming speech during the opening session of this workshop. The event proceeded with introductory remarks of the Chairperson of the Local Council, Hon Napaja Andrew, Mrs. Khaoula Jaoui, Representative of the Implementing Entity (OSS), Mr. Maximo B Twinomuhangi, Kyoga Water Management Zone team leader, & Mrs. Annette Nantongo, Project Deputy Director, who provided an overview of the DRESS-EA project and the commitment of local stakeholders to achieve the project objectives. More than 50 participants took part in the event.

The meeting was honoured to have the presence of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Water & Environment, Mr. Alfred Okot Okidi.

The main objective of the DRESS-EA regional project is to improve small farmers’ & pastoralists’ resilience to drought & climate change risks, by setting up appropriate early warning systems & implementing drought adaptation actions in four countries: Djibouti, Kenya, Sudan & Uganda.

The OSS acts as the regional implementing entity of the Adaptation Fund in collaboration with the regional implementing entities such as the Global Water Partnership in East Africa (GWPEA) & the Global Water Partnership in South Africa (GWPSA-NPC), as well as national executing entities in the targeted countries. The project execution in Uganda is led by the Ministry of Water & Environment (MWE).
